Can we talk mornings? Anyone else have tough mornings? Some mornings are tough around here and others are a breeze. Those others? They happen when everyone has slept through the night, including me. The way sleep goes determines how mornings go in our house. Many mornings the kids are battling for mama hugs or lap time. We often turn those screams and battles into fun time so we laugh to keep from crying.

My ideal morning would be me waking up about 2 hours before the kids. Even an hour would work but two hours would be ideal. I would use those hours to exercise, meditate, read, start breakfast and maybe even dinner. Heck, I might just sit down and enjoy the quiet of the mornings while drinking my still hot cup of coffee. You know because kids don’t care about your hot cup of coffee. But mornings like this a few and far between. Why? The overnight hours. Some child of mind almost always gets up at night. More often than not, both kids are up in the wee hours. And if by chance they do sleep through, if the hubs has worked late, I am usually only half asleep waiting for him to get home or the “noise” of him coming in wakes me.

So yes, most mornings are tough for us. Well for me. Mostly me! The kids are usually bright eyed and bushy tailed. There was a time when Zoë would cry for a good 15-20 when she woke up. She would cry if you walked down the stairs without holding her hand or if you didn’t pick her up. I’m so glad those days have passed. Now Baby E? He will generally just go back in his room and work out the morning kinks before he heads downstairs. Sometimes he will say “wait me” when he realizes Zoë and I are heading down the steps. Since he is still teething (when will it end?), I blame some of our morning and overnight madness on this.

What else makes mornings tough? Cold coffee! Kids do not care. They want and need their needs met asap so if I haven’t enjoyed my one cup of coffee before the Z&E show starts, I’m doomed to cold or forgotten coffee. Some mornings I’m lucky if I eat breakfast. And let’s not forget preschool prep and the upcoming camp prep in a few weeks. These days our morning battles include what Zoë does or does not want to wear or chasing Baby E to change his diaper. The boy is fast! I need my coffee just to deal with his speed. And some mornings, I get to sit outside and drink my coffee while Zoe has her morning snack because Baby E has decided to sleep in.

This Mornings are Tough video fromPlaytex Baby™ pretty much sums up what our mornings are like. And because the hubs leaves for work in the afternoon, he gets a quick dose of madness just before he leaves. Sometimes he has to race through the door just to make it to work on time. The kids think they get to decide when he leaves. Ha!

And here is my mama confession of the day: Tough mornings are one of the reasons why nap time and bedtime are pretty much my favorite time of the day. This mama needs to recharge!

I’m looking forward to the days when I can once again claim a few mornings hours as me time. Productive mornings really make me feel like “super” mom and make for a great day for all of us. Can you relate? What’s the toughest part of your day in motherhood?

The worst part lol (sounds bad to say) would be the evening when I get home from work. I come in and all I can think about it is kicking my feet up, but NOPE! My month old takes control and I am on my feet until he decides to wind down.
